Serving Catholic Students at Hillsdale College

St. Anthony's campus Ministry: The Grotto

St. Anthony’s Catholic Church has been ministering to the students of Hillsdale College since the church was founded in 1853. In addition to serving the sacramental and spiritual needs of the students through the church downtown, in 2012 the parish purchased a house just off of campus, now called the Grotto, to serve as an outreach, hospitality, and campus ministry center. The Grotto is a meeting place for students to pray, study, take a break from campus pressures, and find an active and faithful Catholic community.  The greatest gift of the Grotto is its chapel, which reposes the Holy Eucharist. Mass is said there weekly, with Confession, Adoration, Rosary, and formation events also happening every week—not to mention many social gatherings!

At the parish, students attend weekend and daily Mass, Confession, Adoration, and formation and social events.  They also volunteer in a variety of ways, helping with our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd program, the Knights of Columbus, the Council of Catholic Women, teen religious education, and other programs and events throughout the school year.

“I’ve really appreciated the Catholic community I’ve found at the Grotto. The best communities are always centered on Christ, and bringing Christ in the Holy Eucharist to us at Hillsdale is an amazing blessing.” – Hillsdale College Student

“I love the reverence of the liturgy at St. Anthony’s. I have always felt incredibly welcome by all of the parishioners, and Father Dave is amazing. I have been so blessed by St. Anthony’s during my time at school.” – Hillsdale College Student
