Children’s Religious Education Updates to our Program

We are grateful to begin a new year of Religious Education at St. Anthony—and we are pleased to tell you about our program’s growth as well as the improvements we’re making.

Registration for this year’s programs will open in a few days and classes will begin the week of September 20. We’ve spent the last year updating our website and we’re still finishing the children’s registration page. We’ll announce the opening of registration on our website, MyParish app, and Facebook page. Thanks for your patience.

Our Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) program is about to start its fourth school year and now we will have 10 CGS sessions per week with 12 trained catechists, serving children ages 3 to 12 (or preschool through 6th grade). That’s a big expansion from the fall of 2018, when we offered three Level 1 sessions with just three trained teachers. We owe a special thanks to our Catechists for their hard work as well as to you for your support, both prayerfully and financially.

This Montesori-based program is beautiful in its approach to drawing children into the deepest and most essential mysteries of our faith in liturgy and scripture. We are honored to walk with your children as they contemplate, meditate, and pray about these mysteries. For more information about each Level of CGS, please visit our website.

We’re making an important change to our Confirmation program, due to Bishop Boyea’s desire to have children confirmed at younger ages. This year, 7th, 8th, and 9th grade students will prepare to receive the sacrament of Confirmation. Our goal is to confirm these students in the spring of 2022 in one year of preparation, rather than the two years it has taken in the past. We hope to continue to have a one-year Confirmation program in the future with our 7th grade students plus a Confirmation Mass each spring at St. Anthony. We’re working with Bishop Boyea to make this happen.

Finally, our Youth Group program will consist of large group nights and small group nights as well as plenty of opportunities for our teens to serve alongside one another. We’ll also have one night a month with no programming so that families can enjoy Sunday evenings together. Deacon Aaron will continue to oversee the Youth Group while Amy Miller begins working as a Catechist in CGS Level 1.

If you have any questions, please contact Amy Miller at 517-437-3305 or religioused@stanthonyhillsdale.com.

We are grateful for your continued prayers.
