Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Catechist Training
June 18 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 9:00am, repeating until June 26, 2019
Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is an approach to the spiritual formation of children that is rooted in the Bible, the Liturgy of the Church, and the educational methods of Maria Montessori. Children gather in an atrium, a room prepared especially for them, which contains simple yet beautiful child-size materials that help the child to absorb the most essential proclamations of the Christian faith. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a sensorial, rich, prayerful experience for children from ages 3 to 12 years old that gives them the opportunity to grow in love of and knowledge of God through the proclamations of the scriptures and the study of the Liturgy.
Formation Courses are the method by which the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is offered to adults. Adults will have the opportunity to see and practice presentations and work with materials given to children in a specific age group. Courses are both educational and a retreat, forming the adult to serve the child.
Each formation course includes preparation in giving the presentations (the lessons) to the children, provides a solid background in the Montessori educational approach, and provides the theological underpinnings of this work. The Formation Leader assists the adult catechist in writing an album (presentation outline), how to prepare the environment, and how to make the materials for the children’s work.

**“Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has been described as the meeting of two mysteries: the mystery of God and the mystery of the child.” If we want to help the child grow near to God, we should, with patience and courage…seek to go always closer to the vital nucleus of things. This requires study and prayer. The child himself will be our teacher if we know how to observe him. “ ~Sofia Cavaletti
